Position: Cook
Reporting to: Head Cook
Duty Station: Arusha
Maternity Africa is seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join their team. The Cook will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals for patients, staff, and visitors. This role requires a commitment to food quality, hygiene, and dietary care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare meals based on established menus, recipes, and dietary needs (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, soft foods)
- Cook and serve food at the correct temperature and within set timeframes
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment
- Follow proper food safety and storage procedures, including labelling
- Assist with stock management and ordering supplies
- Cater to patients with special dietary requirements, such as allergies or food intolerances
- Ensure workplace safety and hygiene standards are upheld
- Support catering for hospital events as needed
- Perform any other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Secondary School Certificate
- Certificate in food preparation and handling or related training in food production
- At least 3 years of experience in a professional kitchen (hospitals, schools, or institutions serving over 100 people per meal preferred)
- Ability to prepare a wide variety of Tanzanian meals
- Knowledge of basic culinary techniques and ability to follow recipes
- Strong attention to hygiene, detail, and organization
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physically capable of lifting heavy items and standing for extended periods
