Human Resources Intern Job Vacancy at United Nations – May 2025

Expected Duration: 3–6 months starting in June 2025
The Human Resources Section of the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”) is inviting applications for internships starting in June 2025. The Mechanism performs essential functions previously carried out by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. It continues to uphold their legacies and strives for best practices in international criminal justice.
Note: This internship is UNPAID. Interns are expected to work five days per week, full-time.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Human Resources Section, Associate Human Resources Officer, or another staff member, the intern will:
- Manage the Internship Programme, acting as the focal point for internal and external enquiries
- Draft correspondence, handle telephone enquiries, and prepare offer letters
- Follow up on documentation and inform departments about application statuses
- Conduct induction briefings for new interns, process check-outs, and update databases
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration between interns, staff, and departments
- Assist the Human Resources Section with ad hoc duties as required
Qualifications and Special Skills
Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following:
- Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a relevant bachelor’s degree
- Be enrolled in or have completed a relevant graduate degree (Master's or higher)
Other requirements:
- No prior work experience is necessary; however, prior exposure to Human Resources or Administration is desirable
- Familiarity with standard software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Languages
- Fluency in English is required
- Knowledge of French or another UN official language is desirable

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. All costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsor.
If selected, applicants may be required to secure a visa and work authorization. Specific visa requirements should be discussed upon acceptance.
