Position Summary
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is seeking a qualified and experienced Clinical Officer to support the implementation of the CARECHAIN-NCD program across Kilombero, Ulanga, Malinyi, and Bagamoyo districts. The successful candidate will be involved in clinical work, data collection, training, and research activities at the Chronic Diseases Clinic Ifakara (CDCI), Intermediate Care Unit at St. Francis Referral Hospital (IMC-SFRH), and the Heart and Lung Clinic.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend to patients with heart failure, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and COPD within the CARECHAIN-NCD scope.
- Participate in data collection at the Heart and Lung Clinic, CDCI, community outreaches, and public health facilities.
- Learn and perform sonography and echocardiography in clinics and other project areas.
- Support research initiatives aligned with CARECHAIN, IMC, and KIULARCO protocols.
- Recruit and consent patients for studies.
- Train healthcare workers on performing sonography and echocardiography.
- Conduct health education and community sensitization regarding NCDs and their link with HIV/AIDS.
- Coordinate MCT-accredited training courses through the Ifakara training platform.
- Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the Project Leader or Principal Investigator.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine (minimum requirement).
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection.
- Experience with patients affected by non-communicable diseases and HIV.
- Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Skills and Competencies
- Fluency in Swahili (English is an added advantage).
- Strong interest in both clinical practice and field research.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to engage with district and village stakeholders.
- Professionalism, ethical work attitude, and adherence to IHI values: Integrity, Initiative, Equity, Excellence, Accountability.
