About the Role
The World Bank is recruiting a local Economist to join its Economic Policy (EP) Global Practice in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The successful candidate will support macroeconomic monitoring, fiscal policy analysis, and policy dialogue to promote sustainable growth and private-sector development in the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess Tanzania’s macroeconomic developments
- Prepare analytical briefs and just-in-time economic notes
- Run economic and financial models using relevant software
- Maintain macroeconomic databases and projections
- Contribute to reports such as Tanzania Economic Update, Country Climate and Development Report, and Macro Poverty Outlook
- Support fiscal and debt policy monitoring under IDA’s Sustainable Development Finance Policy
- Engage with government stakeholders and development partners in policy dialogue
- Coordinate with World Bank teams to support the implementation of the country strategy
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Economics (PhD preferred)
- At least 5 years of relevant experience
- Strong understanding of Tanzania’s economy, fiscal, and monetary policies
- Experience with Tanzania’s public institutions and key stakeholders
- High-level communication skills in English
- Strong integrity, teamwork, and adaptability in multicultural environments
Technical Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of macroeconomic frameworks and analysis
- Ability to interpret data and translate into actionable policy insights
- Skills in fiscal and debt policy, trade, and economic growth strategies
- Proficiency in STATA, EViews, Excel, and other relevant tools
