Job Summary
The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury functions, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role manages the monthly and yearly financial closings, preparation of annual financial statements, and ensures timely and accurate submission of tax returns to relevant government authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations: billing, AR/AP, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition
- Plan and coordinate yearly fixed asset verification and update the register accordingly
- Ensure all statutory and tax payments are submitted on time
- Prepare cash flow/treasury reports for management review
- Monitor and review general ledger postings, accrual schedules, and month-end reconciliations
- Maintain the fixed asset register: track additions, depreciation, disposals, and project capitalization
- Review and upload all journals and accruals into SAP for accuracy and completeness
- Conduct monthly SAP closings in compliance with Knauf Group’s reporting timelines
- Prepare cash flow forecasts for both local and group-level requirements
- Analyze financial reports and highlight any discrepancies to senior management
- Prepare periodic trial balances and ensure readiness for final financial statement preparation
- Ensure full compliance with external audit requirements and close all audit queries raised in the Management Letter
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA (T), ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent international accounting certification (advantageous)
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing accounting, Company’s Act, and Tanzanian tax laws
- Familiarity with IAS, IFRS, and SAP systems
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and lead financial operations with integrity
