Job Overview

As a Student Counsellor at AKU, you will provide professional counselling services to graduate, undergraduate, and post-medical trainees. You will design and implement programs that enhance psychological well-being and resilience among students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual and group counselling/therapy sessions targeting therapeutic goals for students at various academic levels
  • Formulate accurate case diagnoses and maintain confidential records according to ethical standards
  • Lead campus-wide mental health initiatives and promote well-being awareness
  • Develop proactive programs addressing emotional regulation, stress management, and coping skills
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to support student psychological development
  • Create self-help content and stay updated on emerging mental health trends
  • Provide crisis support and manage high-risk situations professionally
  • Coordinate student care through referrals and collaborate with university departments for holistic support
  • Identify systemic stressors affecting student well-being and communicate findings to relevant authorities while maintaining confidentiality

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in Psychology or related field, preferably with Clinical/Counselling specialization
  • Minimum 3 years of counselling/psychotherapy training and 2 years of practical experience in clinical or educational settings
  • Skilled in counselling theories, techniques, and psychological assessments
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, with strong public speaking and content development skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
