The Tanzania Mining Commission (TMC) was established under the Mining Act 2010 and reinforced through the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act of 2017. Operational since July 7, 2017, the Commission took over all technical and regulatory functions previously handled by the Minerals Division, Tanzania Minerals Audit Agency (TMAA), and Tanzania Diamond Sorting Organization (TANSORT).
Its core mission is to manage and regulate the mining sector effectively, ensuring that Tanzania derives maximum sustainable benefits from its mineral resources.
Technician (Gemmologist) – 3 Posts at TMC (June 2025)
The Mining Commission is currently hiring 3 qualified Technicians (Gemmologists) to join its professional team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Sort and grade gemstones according to various aspects
- Identify and certify gemstones using appropriate equipment and tools
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and materials
- Ensure proper storage of laboratory testing statistics
- Collect and prepare specimens for testing
- Prepare and submit performance reports on gemmological and lapidary tasks
- Perform gemstone valuation in line with the gemstone valuation guide
- Implement and follow laboratory activity guidelines
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualification and Experience
Applicants must hold a Diploma in Gemmology, Gem and Jewellery Technology, or related fields from a recognized institution.
Remuneration
Salary Scale: MCSS 4
