Grants Officer Job Vacancy at Jhpiego – May 2025

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is seeking a qualified Grants Officer to support an upcoming adolescent health implementation research project funded by GAVI. The project aims to assess the integration of HPV vaccination with other adolescent services for out-of-school girls in Karatu (Arusha) and Mbarali (Mbeya) Districts.

Project Background

Since 2018, Jhpiego Tanzania has worked with GAVI, UNICEF, and USAID to strengthen routine immunization services for children, adolescent girls (HPV), and adults (COVID-19). This new research collaboration involves Jhpiego, the Global Immunization Vaccine Access Center (IVAC), MUHAS, the Ministry of Health (MOH), and PORALG. The project will evaluate integrated HPV vaccination approaches and their sustainability and impact on adolescent health outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the grant portfolio and support the MUHAS team to ensure timely and quality project delivery under FAA and cost-reimbursement mechanisms.
  • Coordinate with the Finance Manager and Project Director to facilitate milestone-based grant implementation.
  • Maintain documentation for grant submissions and reporting, including transmittal logs.
  • Facilitate payments based on achievement of project milestones.
  • Update the sub-award tracking system monthly, tracking invoices and reports.
  • Review deliverables from MUHAS, including budget analysis and technical reports.
  • Provide technical assistance on grants management to ensure compliance with Jhpiego and donor policies.
  • Analyze monthly progress and reimbursement reports from MUHAS.
  • Monitor financial and programmatic performance, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of programmatic and financial reports.
  • Build capacity in grants and compliance at MUHAS.
  • Organize and maintain all project grant documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Project Management.
  • Professional training in grants management is an added advantage.
  • 5–6 years’ experience in grants management within a reputable NGO or development organization.
  • Strong understanding of USAID rules and tax regulations in Tanzania.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial systems.
  • Experience managing sub-awards and donor compliance.
  • Ability to mentor and supervise finance staff.

  2. Experience working with internal and external partners.
  3. Capacity to adapt in dynamic program environments.
  4. High ethical standards and attention to detail.
