Job Description

The Underwriting Officer will participate in the development and implementation of the sales and underwriting of General Insurance covers, aligned with bancassurance objectives. The role ensures the provision of efficient and effective insurance services by handling clients’ General Insurance matters within agreed timescales. Additionally, the role includes providing specialist advice, supporting the team in business retention, and ensuring the achievement of business budgets and profitability.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate underwriting of both Corporate and Retail insurance covers.
  • Manage timely booking and payments for all bank schemes, including proper premium computation for new and renewal covers.
  • Issue renewal notifications to respective branches, relationship managers, or customers at least 60 days in advance.
  • Perform premium reconciliations and confirm accurate charges to customers.
  • Liaise with insurers for correct payment of commissions and profit sharing.
  • Handle customer complaints, liaise with insurers, and provide timely feedback.
  • Monitor and evaluate training program effectiveness and adjust to ensure retention and learning.
  • Review and negotiate insurance quotations, ensuring terms meet requirements and share them with clients.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with TIRA standards, bank policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in client engagement and visits for acquisition and retention.
  • Address audit and risk queries, ensuring strong internal controls.
  • Maintain professional relationships with insurance stakeholders.
  • Submit insurance business reports to supervisors as required.
  • Promote compliance with bancassurance service standards.
  • Contribute to budgeted growth and profitability by data analysis and mitigation planning.
  • Drive operational improvements through new systems and procedures.
  • Support product design and improvement initiatives.
  • Organize training and awareness sessions for branches and clients about insurance offerings.


Qualification and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Banking, Risk Management, Law, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the insurance industry.
  • ACII certification is an added advantage.
  • Solid understanding of insurance products, regulatory requirements, and business performance strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills.
  • Deep understanding of customer segmentation and distribution channel strategies.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team supervision abilities.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
