Airtel Tanzania Limited, the third-largest mobile network operator in Tanzania, is looking for a skilled and experienced Lead, Channel Accountant to join their finance team. Airtel Tanzania operates under Airtel Africa and holds a significant market share in the country’s telecom sector.
Key Responsibilities
Channel Management
- Ensure accurate setup of channel partner accounts in the sales portal and Oracle system.
- Maintain a clean customer master through regular reviews.
- Ensure timely and accurate receipting of distributor payments.
- Guarantee that all issued stock is either paid for or adequately secured.
- Conduct credit assessments for distributors to avoid company credit exposure.
- Assist in developing distributor commission structures aligned with company strategy.
- Identify risks and opportunities in commission structures, review and approve them.
- Review distributor commission calculations and ensure timely payments.
- Prepare termination payments to distributors when necessary.
- Review Channel Partners Debtors Aging reports regularly.
- Submit monthly reports to Group Finance including AG and DTRs.
- Support distributors in managing their accounts and profitability analyses.
- Ensure quarterly balance confirmations from distributors.
Reporting
- Ensure timely accounts receivable period closure and generation of aging reports.
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly internal and external reporting templates on time.
- Respond promptly to adhoc requests.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of channel inputs as per ACE India/Tanzania SLAs and financial reporting calendar.
- Review revenue account reconciliations (IN-GL, Sim Recon).
- Manage LMS and rewards systems.
- Ensure accounts are assigned to analysts and reconciled per group guidelines.
- Monitor timely billing, collections, and management of bad debts.
Cash Management
- Ensure all collections are banked promptly.
- Release stocks only after payment confirmation.
- Monitor E-Value at shops and ensure petty cash accountability.
- Train shop staff on cash management processes.
- Manage liquidity, working capital optimization, risk, and debt management.
- Ensure vendor payments and collections are timely.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and cash forecasting.
Inventory Management
- Ensure shops are properly set up before trading begins.
- Train cashiers on cash reporting and inventory management.
- Monitor shop stock ordering and ensure stock accountability at shops and warehouses.
- Address any stock variances and reconcile shop stock holdings.
- Manage stock accounting for goods sold such as handsets and dongles as per accounting guidelines.
People Management
- Lead and engage the team, managing performance and succession planning.
- Align team objectives with business strategies.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree, ACCA/CPA/CFA qualified or in progress.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in FMCG or Telecoms, with telecom industry knowledge preferred.
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative analytical review of financial statements.
- Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex business issues and recommend practical solutions.
