About Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that provides emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and healthcare exclusion. Main Purpose of the Role
To prepare meals for MSF patients and staff, ensuring that all food is made in accordance with hygiene standards and security protocols, and that the nutritional needs of the beneficiaries are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare daily meals for staff and patients while ensuring proper hygiene and safety practices.
- Maintain stock of food supplies, prepare shopping lists, and handle purchases if necessary.
- Ensure meals are served promptly and that all kitchen and dining facilities are cleaned before and after meals.
- Maintain drinkable water availability throughout the day and upon leaving the premises.
- Maintain inventory of all kitchen utensils and ensure their integrity.
- Report any loss, damage, or safety incidents to the supervisor.
- Ensure proper care and usage of kitchen equipment and materials.
Minimum Qualifications
- Essential literacy; a course in cooking is desirable.
- Previous experience working as a cook is an added advantage.
Language Requirements
- Good spoken and written English desirable.
- Fluency in Kiswahili is essential.

About MSF in Tanzania
MSF has operated in Tanzania since 1993, with activities including emergency responses to epidemics and support to healthcare systems. The current Liwale Project, launched in December 2022, supports 7 health facilities with a focus on maternal and child health. MSF facilitates staffing, training, medical supplies, water and sanitation, and infrastructure rehabilitation.
