Dangote Cement Limited Tanzania, a subsidiary of Dangote Cement PLC Nigeria, is seeking a Tax Specialist to join its Finance Department. The company’s vision is “To be the preferred supplier in Tanzania, Northern Mozambique, Regional Markets and Indian Ocean Islands, of high-quality affordable products.” This position plays a critical role in supporting that vision by ensuring proactive tax compliance and minimizing tax-related risks.
Job Summary
The Tax Specialist reports directly to the Financial Controller and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The role is based in Tanzania and requires a deep understanding of local tax laws, financial practices, and statutory compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Management: Lead and manage the company’s tax compliance, including VAT, NSSF, mining royalties, and city levies.
- Liaison Role: Serve as the primary contact for tax consultants, lawyers, and authorities such as TRA and NSSF.
- Statutory Returns: Ensure all statutory and tax returns are accurate and submitted on time, including Transfer Pricing documentation.
- Tax Deductions and Payments: Accurately process all tax deductions and ensure timely payments to relevant authorities.
- General Ledger and Accounting: Maintain accurate statutory accounting in SAP, including monthly reconciliations (e.g., Sales to VAT).
- Tax Audits: Manage TRA and other statutory audits from preparation through resolution.
- Dispute Resolution: Support resolution of past tax exposures at objection, TRAB, TRAT, and Court of Appeal levels.
- Records Management: Maintain complete records of all statutory payments made since the company’s inception.
- Strategic Support: Perform strategic tax reviews and provide analytical support as assigned by the FC or CFO.
Requirements
Technical Competencies and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 6–8 years of experience in Finance, Tax, or Audit.
- Professional certification: CPA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws and statutory requirements.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, especially SAP (or ability to be trained).
- Prior experience in external audit is an added advantage.
