Job Summary

The Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) is seeking a Laboratory Sample Archivist to support laboratory sample management across various research projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring proper tracking, storage, and retrieval of laboratory samples while adhering to Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP).

Key Responsibilities

Sample Management & Archiving

• Oversee daily operations related to laboratory sample archiving.
• Ensure all samples are tracked, stored, and retrieved according to project needs and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain an updated database of archived samples and ensure accurate documentation.

Data Management & Reporting

• Implement and maintain a data management plan for sample tracking.
• Coordinate data collection and entry for all archived samples.
• Provide regular status updates on archived samples to the laboratory manager.

Quality Control & Compliance

• Ensure proper handling of laboratory samples in accordance with GCP, GCLP, and MITU Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Assist in audits, inspections, and quality control activities related to sample management.

Logistics & Coordination

• Work with project teams to prepare samples for shipment to external laboratories.
• Maintain accurate records of retrieved samples and coordinate their use in research projects.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications

• Diploma in Laboratory Technology or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory sample handling and management.
• Experience with database management and tracking systems for laboratory samples.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good communication skills and flexibility to travel when required.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience in clinical research sample management.
• Familiarity with laboratory data management software.
• Training in GCP and GCLP.
• Registration with a relevant professional board.
